UFC will soon turn its attention to its next pay-per-view offering after returning to Newark, New Jersey, for UFC 288 this past weekend.
The promotion will return to Canada on June 10 for the first time since prior to the COVID-19 pandemic. The seventh UFC PPV event of 2023 will be broadcast live from Vancouver, British Columbia’s Rogers Arena.
Gold will be on the line as Amanda Nunes defends her bantamweight title for the first time since ascending to the throne in July in the main event of UFC 289. Irene Aldana of Mexico will challenge the “Lioness” after Julianna Pea withdrew. Aldana has earned her first title shot after two victories by knockout.
The co-main event, in which former UFC lightweight champion Charles Oliveira competes for the first time since losing to Islam Makhachev in October, will also feature huge stakes. Beneil Dariush, a fellow top-five competitor who has won eight straight matches and is vying to become the next in line, will face off against him.
Dan Ige is the only other top 15 competitor scheduled to appear on the main card. The intriguing former M-1 Global champion Nate Landwehr will square off against the #13-ranked featherweight in what many consider to be a fight of the night contender.
Two unranked contests are taking up the remaining two spots. Mike Malott and Marc-André Barriault, both of Canada, will face off against Adam Fugitt and Eryk Anders, respectively.
