SILVERSTONE, England: Lewis Hamilton ended his winless streak since the 2021 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix by winning the British Grand Prix at Silverstone. The Mercedes driver edged out Max Verstappen by 1.4 seconds, securing his seventh victory at the historic circuit, the most by any driver at a single venue in F1 history.
Hamilton, who has faced challenges since his controversial 2021 championship loss to Verstappen, finally found success despite Mercedes‘ struggles under new regulations implemented in 2022. This victory marks a significant achievement as Hamilton is set to leave Mercedes for Ferrari at the end of the season.
During the race, Verstappen passed Lando Norris with four laps remaining and closed in on Hamilton. Switching to hard tyres in his final pit stop, Verstappen gained significant speed, unlike Norris and Hamilton, who were on soft tyres.
Norris initially led on Lap 20 but lost his position after a delayed pit stop. His decision to stick with soft tyres cost him, while teammate Oscar Piastri‘s choice of medium tyres proved advantageous, allowing Piastri to finish fourth with the fastest lap.
Carlos Sainz finished fifth for Ferrari, followed by Nico Hulkenberg of Haas in sixth, and Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll and Fernando Alonso in seventh and eighth. Alex Albon secured ninth for Williams, and Yuki Tsunoda took tenth for RB.
George Russell, Hamilton’s teammate who started in pole position, faced difficulties in the wet conditions and retired on Lap 33 due to a water system issue.
