Pedri, a midfielder for Barcelona, was substituted during their Europa League playoff match against Manchester United on Thursday night because of what appears to be a knee injury.
One of Barça’s key players, the teenage Spanish international is spearheading their La Liga title defense as they now lead Real Madrid by eight points.
At the group stage, the Catalans were eliminated from the Champions League and dropped into the Europa League, where a matchup against Manchester United was scheduled.
But as the first leg’s halftime approached and there was still no goal, Pedri was left slouched on the Camp Nou field gripping his knee and getting medical attention before being replaced by the adaptable Sergi Roberto.
But neither team gave up easily, the first half of this match between two of Europe’s top teams ended scoreless.
Jordi Alba stopped Tyrell Malacia‘s initial shot, and after some great home team play, Robert Lewandowski tested David de Gea at the near post.
Jadon Sancho’s shot was deflected just wide of the far post before Lewandowski launched a quick volley over the top. Marc-Andre ter Stegen also produced significant stops to stop Marcus Rashford and Wout Weghorst.
