Paige VanZant hasn’t fought since she entered the BKFC ring almost two years ago, but despite a successful online business, she still competes occasionally.
The BKFC president, David Feldman, revealed the organization is still intending on bringing VanZant back for at least one more bout, and preliminary talks have started to make that happen. However, there is no official news on when she will be competing once more. VanZant was last slated to compete in an August battle against Charisa Sigala, however the match was canceled days before the scheduled BKFC event in London.
VanZant has recently been preoccupied with building a new home in Florida and making a very good life from both her personal website and OnlyFans page. Feldman acknowledges that even he questioned whether VanZant would ever engage in combat again given how much money she is receiving through those channels, but he appears to have received an answer.
“I actually questioned that myself, but she had a conversation with a couple of the guys on the team and I don’t think that she’s moved on,” Feldman told MMA Fighting. “I think she wants one more crack at it.
“I know that I want to give her one more crack at it, so I think we’re going to have at least one more run there.”
VanZant has lost both of her decisions to fellow UFC veteran Rachael Ostovich and current BKFC strawweight champion Britain Hart so far in her bare-knuckle fighting career.
Despite those defeats, VanZant was still more than prepared to fight again until Sigala’s fight with her was called off last year.
Since then, VanZant has primarily concentrated on expanding her online business. She has claimed that because of her big earnings, she could quit fighting right away. Feldman anticipates seeing VanZant back in the BKFC ring sooner rather than later since she has no intention of giving up fighting.
“Paige, she always comes to fight,” Feldman said. “Some people want to say, ‘She lost twice.’ She lost two close fights. She came to fight both times. She challenged herself both times. She doesn’t have to fight a day in her life ever again and she’s going to live a superstar life. She wants to challenge herself again.
“I take my hat off to her. Whatever she’s doing outside the ring, that’s on her own and let her do whatever she’s doing to make that kind of money she’s making, but as far as being a fighter, she keeps wanting to challenge herself and how can you not respect that.”
Felice Herrig, an ex-UFC fighter who joined BKFC about a year ago, has been on the promotion’s radar and could face VanZant in the future, according to Feldman. In their prior encounter in the UFC in 2015, VanZant prevailed through unanimous decision.
Feldman isn’t against scheduling VanZant, Herrig, or even both of them that night, as BKFC is considering September as the date for the promotion’s next significant card.
Feldman said, “I’d love to have that.” “On that card, Paige might face Felice.”
