Paulo Bento has affirmed that he will leave his post as South Korea chief subsequent to losing 4-1 to Brazil in the last 16 of the 2022 World Cup on Monday.
The Selecao hustled into a four-goal lead against an overawed South Korea side, who had battled so splendidly to book their spot in the knockout stages last week subsequent to beating Portugal in stoppage time.
Yet, Bento has now uncovered that his choice to leave after this colder time of year’s competition was one made some time prior and he will stay consistent with his promise.
“I have recently reported to the players and the leader of the league that this is a choice I took in September,” he said post-match.
“It is firmly established and I have affirmed it. I need to thank everybody for all that they have done.
“From now onwards we need to contemplate what’s in store. I will rest and we need to witness what will after I rest.”
