After having to wait a week, Mackenzie Dern and Angela Hill will finally clash on Saturday.
Dern and Hill, who were originally set for UFC Vegas 72 last week, were moved to the main event of the UFC Vegas 73 program this weekend. Both women made weight on Friday at the event’s official weigh-ins. Dern weighed 115 pounds, while Hill weighed slightly less, 114.5 pounds.
Dern, who is ranked No. 9 at 115 pounds in the MMA Fighting Global Rankings, and veteran Hill, who is ranked No. 13, both have a lot riding on this fight.
Edmen Shahbazyan and Anthony Hernandez, the co-headlining middleweights, both weighed in without incident at 185.5 and 186 pounds, respectively.
There were a few blips during the official weigh-ins, including one repeat offender. Orion Cosce, a welterweight, registered at 172.5 pounds, which is 1.5 pounds overweight (plus the one-pound allowance for a non-title fight). Cosce has missed weight twice in a row now; in a welterweight match against Blood Diamond at UFC 277 in July, he also weighed 1.5 pounds above the limit.
Vanessa Demopoulos, a strawweight who weighed in 1.5 pounds over the limit for a non-title fight at 117.5 pounds, also failed to make weight.
The fights between Cosce and Gilbert Urbina (170) and Demopoulos and Karolina Kowalkiewicz (115.5) will both take place as catchweights, with Cosce and Demopoulos each forfeiting 20% of their winnings as a consequence, according to the UFC.
