According to manager Erik ten Hag, Manchester United is convinced that Marcus Rashford will dedicate his future to the Red Devils.
However, Ten Hag thinks it’s improbable and is optimistic that negotiations will lead to a new, long-term contract.
“Marcus wants to stay and we want him to stay, so I think we will find each other,” said Ten Hag.
With 29 goals this season, Marcus Rashford is Manchester United’s leading scorer.
Before one of their other players, Luke Shaw entered the final year of his contract in April, United stated that it had achieved headway in some contract negotiations and had given him a new agreement.
Ten Hag claims to understand the reasons why Rashford, who has scored 29 goals this season, and the club have been unable to come to terms, but he insists he is not troubled by the delay.
“Yes, I know [why], but I don’t talk about the process,” he added.
“Let the process go. Once again, this is not important at the moment for me or Rashy. For him, it is to get more goals this season and he is playing a wonderful season and the team is playing a wonderful season. We have to get into the Champions League and focus on that.”
Due to illness, Rashford is a doubt for United’s match against Bournemouth on Saturday.
He returned to training this week after missing the 2-0 victory over Wolves due to injury, but he will be examined before the Vitality Stadium match after being ill on Friday.
To finish in the top four of the Premier League and earn a spot in the Champions League for the upcoming season, United must win two of their final three games.
