According to several news outlets, Phil Giles and Lee Dykes of Brentford have been shortlisted by Tottenham Hotspur for the position of director of football.
Spurs are looking for a replacement for Fabio Paratici, who left his position in April after a worldwide football suspension was upheld.
According to a recent report from various news sources, Spurs are considering other alternatives in addition to Sevilla’s Monchi.
Now, sources have verified that both Brentford’s technical director Dykes and executive director Giles are being considered by Tottenham.
Giles joined the club in 2015 and oversaw the Bees’ ascent from mid-table in the Championship to the Premier League, while Dykes was elevated to his current position at the start of this season after serving as the team’s head of scouting for three years.
Manchester United, both under their current leadership and potential future owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who is an admirer of their analytical approach, are both keeping an eye on Giles and Dykes.
Tiago Pinto of Roma and Markus Krosche of Eintracht Frankfurt are two more candidates for the director of football position at Tottenham. Michael Edwards, who left Liverpool after 11 years at the end of the previous season, is also a popular candidate.
Between 2009 and 2011, Edwards served as the head analyst for Tottenham, and since leaving Liverpool, he has been connected to Chelsea, a rival club in London.
In addition to Scott Munn, who will be Tottenham’s new chief football officer, the new director of football will report to him.
Thomas Frank of Brentford, who has now had much experience working with Giles and Dykes, is one of several managers Spurs have on their shortlist after recently terminating negotiations with Julian Nagelsmann.
