Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s Sweden return ended in victory as they beat Georgia 1-0 in their first game of World Cup qualification on Thursday evening.
The AC Milan striker returned to the national team for the first time since he took the decision to retire after the 2016 European Championship, and at 39 he overtook legendary goalkeeper Thomas Ravelli as the oldest player to represent Sweden.
Ibrahimovic wore the No.11 on his back, as opposed to his previous No.10 shirt, and had a couple of shots on the night but was unable to get either on target.
Despite his lack of precision in front of goal, he did pick up the assist for Viktor Claesson’s goal, which was the only one of the game.
Sweden have reason to be excited, with Ibrahimovic, Juventus’ Dejan Kulusevski and Real Sociedad’s Alexander Isak linking up in attack.
