EXCLUSIVE: Lingard is out-of-favour at United now but Jose Mourinho believes that he will be able to get the best out of him at Spurs
Tottenham want to sign Jesse Lingard in a £30m deal and rescue him from his Manchester United nightmare.
Spurs boss Jose Mourinho is keen to be reunited with Lingard and believes he can revive his flagging career.
Lingard’s future at Old Trafford looks bleak, with the England midfielder finding himself frozen out under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
The 27-year-old has not started a Premier League game since January and he remains on the fringes of Solskjaer’s first team squad.
It is understood he was left seething when Solskjaer informed him he wasn’t even among the substitutes for United’s opening league game of the season at home to Crystal Palace.
To make matters worse he has tried to engineer showdown talks with Solskjaer to discover if he is still part of his long term plans, but has found himself ignored.
Lingard, who has won 24 international caps, hired a personal trainer while on holiday in Greece this summer in a bid to be in peak physical condition for when he returned to pre-season training.
But he feels like whatever he does he cannot impress Solskjaer and his coaching team enough to win back his place in the starting XI.
The situation has left Lingard in limbo and former United boss Mourinho wants to take full advantage by offering him a lifeline in London.
Lingard grew up a United fan, made his debut in 2012 and will be reluctant to leave the English giants.
But he knows he might have no choice but to seek a fresh start elsewhere as he enters what should be the peak years of his career.
Lingard played for England in the semi finals of the World Cup in Russia in 2018 but has seen his career stagnate since then.
