According to Bleacher Report, Arsenal may be willing to offer up Shkodran Mustafi and Matteo Guendouzi in a deal for Atletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey.
It’s claimed that Arsenal are desperate to bring in Partey. The Ghanaian ace is allegedly at the top of Mikel Arteta’s list as he looks for a midfielder.
However, paying for Partey is a bit of a problem. His release clause is beyond Arsenal’s budget right now, meaning swap deals are being pursued.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang or Alexandre Lacazette are mentioned, but so are defender Shkodran Mustafi and midfielder Matteo Guendouzi.
The report notes that Atletico may be interested in the pair, and Arsenal would seemingly be happy to let them go as they attempt to lure Partey to North London.
Mustafi cost £35million back in 2016, but has failed to live up to that billing. The German has been error-prone at times, and could find himself down the pecking order next season.
It would be little surprise to see Mustafi go, but Guendouzi may be a little more frustrating. The 21-year-old has huge potential, but has been through real inconsistency.
The Frenchman could be an appealing option in a swap deal given that potential, but much will depend on whether Diego Simeone believes that he can get the best out of him.
