Jordi Alba’s contract will be mutually terminated, according to Barcelona, which has confirmed their agreement.
The fullback played more than 450 games for the club and won six La Liga championships, five Copas del Rey championships, and one UEFA Champions League during his 11 seasons at Camp Nou.
“FC Barcelona and Jordi Alba have reached an agreement to terminate the player’s contract with the club one year earlier than it was due to expire at the end of the 2023–24 season,” reads a statement from the team regarding Alba’s departure.
“FC Barcelona would like to publicly express its gratitude to Alba for his professionalism, commitment and dedication, and his ever-positive and friendly relationship with all members of the Barça family, and wishes him every fortune in the future. Barça will always be a home for you, Jordi.”
Alba will depart Barça after helping the team win its first La Liga championship in four years, although throughout the 2022–23 season, the Spaniard generally took second place to youngster Alejandro Balde.
Along with Sergio Busquets, the Spanish international left La Blaugrana this summer. After playing 480 games for 721 games, the holding midfielder leaves Barça as the club’s third-highest appearance maker.
Alba’s contract was set to expire at the conclusion of the 2023–24 season, and he had previously expressed a wish to stay in Catalonia, even expressing a desire to be present if Lionel Messi made a comeback to his old team.
