Before Tottenham can start challenging for major awards, Harry Kane has warned the club’s supporters that “a lot needs to change.”

While PSG has entered the race and Spurs anticipate Chelsea interest, Kane will reach the final 12 months of his contract this summer and is a genuine transfer target for both Bayern Munich and Manchester United. Chairman Daniel Levy hasn’t given up trying to keep him, either.

The striker has never concealed his desire to fight for significant trophies before his career comes to an end, and after Spurs’ season-ending loss to Brentford at home, Kane understood the difficult road the team still had to go.

“There’s a big summer ahead and a lot that needs to change here to start being successful again,” Kane said. “Ultimately my focus now is to enjoy this last week as much as possible and to try to finish with a win on Sunday.”

Kane continued, “I think there’s a conversation to be had, in terms of some of the values of the club. We’ve had many conversations before like that, how we can improve, and that will be the case again.”

The appointment of a new manager will be the first and most noticeable change at Tottenham this summer. Ryan Mason continues to oversee Spurs in an interim capacity, but he has made it clear that he wants the position on a long-term basis. However, club officials are still assessing their possibilities, including Arne Slot of Feyenoord, with whom they have already had preliminary discussions.

On a deeper level, though, Spurs supporters are demanding significant investments in the playing staff to strengthen a club that is on course to completely miss out on playing in Europe this season, and calls for chairman Levy to resign have been building among match-going supporters in recent weeks.

In the Premier League, Spurs have dropped to eighth place, one point behind Aston Villa for the final Europa Conference League slot. On the last day, Mason’s team travels to Leeds, and in order for them to win the competition, Villa must lose to Brighton.
