Since the beginning of the year, the 32-year-old midfielder has been in talks with Barca, and a transfer to Camp Nou has long been thought to be his preferred choice.
Gundogan had a strong finish to the campaign and was a key factor in City winning the treble.
Following nine seasons in England, Gundogan has opted to join Barca. He informed Pep Guardiola and the club’s administration of his choice following the Champions League final victory over Inter, despite City’s invitation for him to stay at the Etihad Stadium.
Gundogan’s family was the primary consideration in the transaction, according to those close to him, not money. Gundogan and Barca have reached an agreement that may last for three years, with the possibility of an additional year.
In their financial viability plans, which La Liga authorized earlier this month, Barcelona included the signing of Gundogan. Once he signs the deal, there shouldn’t be any problems with it being registered. Gavi, a great midfielder for Barca, finally had his new contract approved earlier this week.
Gundogan will now get the opportunity to play for Xavi, who he has previously referred to as one of his heroes.
