According to various news sources, Arne Slot has informed Feyenoord that he is eager to accept the management position at Tottenham Hotspur.
Despite losing some key players in recent transfer windows, the Dutch coach has had a fantastic two-year run at Feyenoord, leading the team to a European final (the UEFA Conference League final in 2022) and its first Eredivisie victory since 2017.
Among the well-known candidates who have been mentioned in connection with the Spurs opening are Julian Nagelsmann and Luis Enrique. However, several news outlets are reporting that Daniel Levy and the club’s leadership have been impressed with former AZ Alkmaar manager Slot, both in terms of on-field performance and during first meetings.
Slot has now made it clear that he is eager to accept the role at Spurs as well, informing his present club that, should the opportunity arise, he would like to join the Lilywhites.
Ivan Toney, 44, is currently thought to be the favorite to take over at Tottenham, according to Brentford’s plans for him following an eight-month suspension, while the unemployed Enrique and Sporting CP manager Rubin Amorim have not officially been thrown out of the running.
Tottenham must reach an agreement on compensation with Slot’s Feyenoord in order to move forward with a transfer. This week, negotiations between the two teams and Rafaela Pimenta, Slot’s agent, are expected to pick up speed.
Tottenham has been without a permanent manager since Antonio Conte was fired at the end of March as a result of the club’s dismal run of play, which included consecutive exits from the UEFA Champions League and FA Cup.
Under two interim managers since Conte was fired, nothing has really improved. Ryan Mason has just saw his team lose back-to-back games against Aston Villa and Brentford, while Cristian Stellini oversaw a truly horrific 6-1 loss to Newcastle United before abruptly departing the club.
