The Nevada State Athletic Commission will sanction nine boxers from the first round of the Professional boxers League regular season for failing drug tests related to their fights.

Alejandro Flores Garcia, Krzysztof Jotko, Bruno Cappelozza, Rizvan Kuniev, Mohammad Fakhreddine, Cezar Ferreira, Will Fleury, Daniel Torres, and Thiago Santos were among the PFL athletes for whom the NSAC announced punishments or upcoming hearings. All of those combatants participated in PFL contests on April 1, April 7, or April 14.

On Tuesday, penalties and suspensions were given to three of those fighters. After testing positive for furosemide, Flores, who defeated Torres by unanimous decision at PFL 1 on April 1, received a six-month suspension and a $2,926 fine. Additionally, his win was overturned to a no contest. After testing positive, Jotko, who delivered a majority decision in favor of Fleury at PFL 1, received a six-month suspension and a $6,826 fine. After testing positive for drostanolone, Cappelozza, who defeated Matheus Scheffel by first-round TKO at PFL 2 on April 7, received a nine-month suspension and a $11,451 fine.

The cases of Kuniev (drostanolone), Fahkreddine (stanozolol, dronastalone, GW1516), Ferreira (clomiphene, androstanolone), Fleury (drostanolone), Torres (drostanolone, amphetamine), and Santos (clomiphene) will be decided at a subsequent hearing.

In a recent statement on the subject, the PFL said that it was thinking about hiring USADA to carry out its own anti-doping policy:

The Nevada State Athletic Commission has informed the PFL that a number of fighters who participated in two PFL 2023 Regular Season events this past April have been placed on indefinite suspension pending further assessment by the Commission. The PFL adheres to U.S. State Athletic Commission regulations and has a zero-tolerance attitude for the use of illegal substances. Additionally, the PFL is working with USADA to establish its athlete anti-doping program as it strives to reach the greatest level of testing and compliance in the sport.

The schedule for the second half of the regular season was just made public by the league. The suspensions and impending punishments resulted in numerous alterations being included in the cards, as was to be expected.
