Norwegian midfielder, Martin Odegaard, will meet with Arsenal representatives to talk about signing a new deal, according to various news sources.
Following a strong six-month loan stint, Odegaard signed a permanent deal with Arsenal in the summer of 2021, and he has since established himself as one of the Gunners’ most crucial players.
The fact that the 24-year-old is already club captain highlights his importance in leadership roles, but his contributions on the field, where he has 15 goals and eight assists in 35 Premier League appearances this season, are just as significant.
Odegaard is so important to Arsenal that the club is eager to offer him a generous new deal to reflect his ascent to the position of premier league’s top midfielder.
According to various news sources, Odegaard’s representation are more than willing to meet with Arsenal in the next weeks to discuss an extension that would involve a large wage increase.
Arsenal is not obligated to negotiate a new contract for Odegaard because his existing one expires in 2025, but there is recognition that the Norway international deserves compensation for his contribution to the team.
While preparing their summer transfer strategy, the Gunners are also seeking to finalize a few new contracts, with Odegaard being the most recent in a long line of players in contract extension talks.
Before the end of the month, goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale is anticipated to agree to a new contract; similarly, after a deal was made in February, Bukayo Saka’s protracted search for a new contract is also anticipated to conclude soon.
While talks with center defender William Saliba are still ongoing, midfielder Granit Xhaka may depart the team this summer after negotiations broke down.
