German international Kai Havertz will be joining Arsenal from Chelsea after a deal for more than £65 million was reached.

The Gunners and the Blues had begun negotiations on a possible Havertz transfer, with Chelsea looking to complete a deal worth more than £70 million in order to repay the money they originally paid to Bayer Leverkusen in 2020.

Despite Chelsea’s initial adamance that they would not accept less than £70 million, sources have verified that Arsenal has been successful in negotiating a cheaper deal. The Blues have reportedly agreed to a deal worth more than £65 million altogether.

Once the agreement is finalized, Havertz and Bukayo Saka will be among the highest-paid players at the Emirates Stadium.

Real Madrid and Bayern Munich had both expressed interest in Havertz in recent weeks, with the former just beginning fresh negotiations with the forward’s representatives. Early in June, Real Madrid withdrew from any potential deal because of reservations over Chelsea’s asking price for the German.

After a somewhat uneventful three-year stay at Stamford Bridge, the forward will join the Gunners. Havertz contributed 19 goals for Chelsea in the Premier League, but his 2021 UEFA Champions League final goal against Manchester City will live in infamy.
