Roma suffered another Serie A setback on Thursday night, falling 4-1 away to Genoa. The defeat drops Roma to 16th place with only five points so far this season, while Genoa moves up to 11th.
Genoa had not beaten Roma in their previous 16 attempts and had lost their last two home games.
Roma won 7-0 against Empoli a few weeks ago to demonstrate their potential, but it is their only victory in Serie A this season, with pressure increasing on Jose Mourinho following reports that he may leave for Saudi Arabia in the summer.
Albert Gudmundsson gave Genoa an early lead with a shot from inside the area, but Bryan Cristante equalized after 22 minutes.
At the end of the first half, Mateo Retegui’s volley completed a superb passing move from Genoa, giving the home side the lead again.
On 74 minutes, Morten Thorsby added another for Genoa before Junior Messias made it four to clinch a lopsided victory.
