Belgium get their Euro 2020 off to an impressive start after a comfortable 3-0 win over Russia. Lukaku scored in the 10th minute after VAR ruled Semyonov’s touch played the striker onside.
Substitute Thomas Meunier doubled Belgium’s lead just over 20 minutes later after Russian keeper Shunin parried a cross into the defender’s path to finish.
The game was put to bed late on when the two goal-scorers combined as Meunier driving run and pass found Lukaku who guided the ball home from close range.
Full-time – Belgium 3-0 Russia: And there’s the final whistle!
Belgium’s ninth win in ten group games at international tournaments was as comfortable as the 3-0 scoreline suggests. Lukaku, Meunier and Thorgan Hazard all shone for Martinez’s side.
Russia, meanwhile, will need to reassess their attacking methods. Dzyuba may be a solid focal point, but if the side want to counter with any verve, they need to think about running in behind their target man.
