Al-Ittihad have confirmed the signing of Karim Benzema from Real Madrid.
The Frenchman had previously reached an agreement on a new contract at the Santiago Bernabeu but has been embroiled in a back-and-forth transfer controversy for the past week.
Benzema was said to be considering a job offer from the Saudi Pro League last week, according to rumors from all over Europe and Asia.
He first informed Florentino Perez, the club president of Real Madrid, that he intended to accept the lucrative offer, but afterwards changed his mind and said, “The internet is not reality.”
Benzema and Real Madrid later announced their separation at the end of the 2022–23 season, allowing the striker to join Saudi champions Al–Ittihad in yet another stunning U-turn.
Benzema left for Saudi Arabia after a goodbye press appearance on Tuesday, where he signed a three-year deal with Al-Ittihad.
“Benzema is here. A new tiger will roar. Welcome to Ittihad!” the club said in a statement on Twitter.
As of his departure from Real Madrid, Benzema had the fifth-highest appearance total (648) and the second-highest scoring total (354).
In Sunday’s 1-1 draw at home to Athletic Club, he scored his farewell goal for Los Blancos, capping a memorable 14 years in Spain.
Several news reports claim that Real Madrid would increase their interest in Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane in Benzema’s place. The contract of the England captain at Spurs has one year remaining on it.
