Switzerland faced the hardship of an all-activity Serbia to beat them 3-2 and book their spot in the last 16 of the World Cup.
With Cameroon finding a wonderful late champ against Brazil somewhere else in Group G, a Switzerland triumph demonstrated pivotal in the end when it came to getting their runner up finish.
As has been the situation with most installations in matchday three, the game was totally open from the off with the two groups realizing they had an undeniable possibility progressing. Breel Embolo came close only minutes into the game, before Serbia went down the opposite end and nearly scored themselves from a corner.
Serbia started to rule as procedures quieted down to some degree, attempting to extend the play and hit their two strikers. Switzerland were very much ready to crush past the wing spirits, however, and did precisely that to pull ahead following 20 minutes. Ricardo Rodriguez terminated a ball into the case, which Djibril Sow gathered up and laid into the way of Xherdan Shaqiri who shook it home.
Dragan Stojkovic’s side didn’t jump, however, and pulled back level only six minutes some other time when Aleksandar Mitrovic nearly burst the net with a huge header from Dusan Tadic‘s cross.
Shaqiri before long went from legend to nothing. His messy pass back towards his own goal saw Serbia jump. Tadic got the free ball and fallen through to Dusan Vlahovic who, creating some distance from the goal, switched a shot back across Gregor Kobel and into the furthest corner for 2-1.
Obviously, however, three goals before half-time just weren’t sufficient. Similar as Serbia, Switzerland didn’t overreact, and Embolo was aware of show up at the back post and crush in their second to send the game into the break level.
The hysterical idea of the game definitely seeped into the last part. A long ball from Switzerland transformed into a shrewd section of play on the edge of the case, where Remo Freuler polished off immensely to give his side the lead indeed.
A goal from the get-go in the final part fit Switzerland as the game drew on, with Serbia unexpectedly looking more hysterical and less inclined to hurt Murat Yakin‘s side. Serbia couldn’t get Kostic and Tadic ready as consistently as they did in the main half, which hurt them fundamentally.
That displayed in rather humiliating sums when Mitrovic heaved himself to the floor looking for a penalty following 65 minutes, which obviously didn’t trick the official. Tragically, the occurrence irritated up the Serbian seat, who overwhelmed onto the contribute and caused a respite play – of a game they were pursuing.
Taking off Vlahovic so soon into the game had all the earmarks of being Serbia’s demise. Their scoring danger vanished and as the minutes ticked down, the possibility of them tracking down two goals to change the scene of Group G looked progressively impossible.
Switzerland started to look like their more regular, made selves while seeing out the game. Strains bubbled over once more in injury time as Serbia couldn’t draw near to tracking down a balancer, showing their disappointment at being wiped out from the World Cup.
