After Chelsea and Kante agreed on new terms early this year, it was anticipated that Kante would sign an extension by the end of this month, but negotiations have since stopped.
However, sources have reported that Kante has also been identified as another prospective big-name signing in Saudi Arabia. Clubs from all over Europe have resumed conversations with Kante’s entourage, with Paris Saint-Germain and a few Serie A sides renowned fans.
The 32-year-old has reportedly been approached about making a splashy move to the Middle East and is weighing all of his options. An extension at Chelsea is also still a possibility.
Kante will meet with new manager Mauricio Pochettino before making a final choice about his future. Chelsea has scheduled another round of talks with Kante.
Chelsea is willing to sell Mateo Kovacic and has set a price tag of about £35 million for the Croatian international, who is of interest to Manchester City, in order to raise money for their operations, which may possibly involve acquiring a new striker and goalkeeper.
Chelsea is trying to make changes in a number of areas, not only the midfield. Talks about the futures of several players and goalkeeper Edouard Mendy are also happening. The futures of Kai Havertz, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Christian Pulisic, and Hakim Ziyech are all questionable, and Pochettino has already opted not to seek a permanent deal for Joao Felix, who is currently on loan from Atletico Madrid.
