Mary Earps of England and Manchester United has earned the Best FIFA Women’s Goalkeeper award for 2022 in appreciation of her remarkable year.
In the later months of 2021, Earps established herself as England’s number one goalkeeper, brilliantly rescuing an international career that looked to be waning, and allowed only twice in seven games as the Lionesses won Euro 2022 on home soil.
The 29-year-old has also emerged as the finest goalkeeper in the WSL, bolstering Manchester United‘s defensive strength.
She won ahead of Christiane Endler of Lyon and Ann-Katrin Berger of Chelsea.
As he received the honor, Earps stated: “I’m overjoyed to be holding this trophy.
“I’d want to thank my family, teammates, and the coaching staffs at Manchester United and England.
“It indicates that there is light at the end of the tunnel for everybody who has been in a dark place.”
Earps achieved viral renown for her post-match celebrations when England defeated Germany in the Euro 2022 final, in addition to her exceptional on-field exploits for club and nation. Earps danced her way to the top of the desk as the Lionesses barged into Sarina Wiegman‘s news conference.
On the field, she is noted for her excellent shot-stopping ability and command of her penalty area, and she is frequently heard barking instructions to the defenders in front of her.
Earps is the first English player to be named a finalist for the FIFA Women’s Goalkeeper Award, which was established in 2019. Endler won the championship in 2021, and past winners include Sari van Veenendaal and Sarah Bouhaddi.
