LeBron James has decided to rejoin the Los Angeles Lakers on a two-year, $104 million contract, which includes a no-trade clause and a player option for the 2025-2026 season. This deal marks James’ 22nd season in the NBA, allowing him to reevaluate his prospects next summer.

James is one of only two NBA players with a no-trade clause, alongside Bradley Beal of the Phoenix Suns. The Lakers’ maximum deal could limit their roster flexibility, pushing them about $1 million over the league’s new salary cap. James’ agent, Rich Paul, is discussing a possible $1 million reduction in James’ salary to keep the Lakers under the $188.9 million cap.

Additionally, the Lakers have signed Bronny James Jr., the 55th pick in this year’s draft, to a four-year, $7.9 million rookie deal with a team option in the fourth year. This move could make LeBron and Bronny the first father-son duo to play in the NBA simultaneously.

LeBron James, considered one of the greatest NBA players, will turn 40 on December 30. He holds numerous records, including being the only player to reach 40,000 career points. Last season, he became the first player to be selected to 20 All-Star teams.

James leads the NBA in all-time postseason points and ranks among the top 10 in various statistical categories. In the 2020 season, he led the Lakers to their 17th championship, averaging 25.7 points, 8.3 assists, and 7.3 rebounds. Despite this, the Lakers have failed to advance past the first round in four of James’ six seasons with the team.
