When France star Kylian Mbappé returns to action in Euro 2024, he will be barred from wearing a face mask featuring the three colours of the French flag that he displayed on Thursday.
Mbappé cracked his nose during France’s opening 1-0 victory over Austria on Monday, colliding with Austria defender Kevin Danso‘s shoulder.
As he prepares to make a rapid return to the pitch, the Real Madrid forward participated in light training with his teammates on Thursday, sporting a mask featuring the renowned French tricolore.
However, according to UEFA rules, Mbappé can only wear a single-colour mask unless a special exemption is acquired.
Didier Deschamps, France’s coach, stated Thursday that he hoped Mbappé might play against the Netherlands. However, sources stated that he will be named on the bench and is unlikely to play until France’s last group game against Poland on Tuesday.
France and the Netherlands are tied in Group D with three points each. The Dutch came from behind to win Poland 2-1, while France needed an own goal to defeat Austria.
France has won seven of their last eight meetings, including home and away victory in qualification.
