Following England’s victory over Slovakia in the Euro 2024 round of 16, on Sunday in Gelsenkirchen, Germany, Jude Bellingham is under investigation by UEFA for allegedly “breaching the basic rules of decent conduct” by making a gesture to grasp his crotch in front of the Slovakia bench.

The gesture, which came after his stoppage-time equalizer, is reportedly unlikely to result in a UEFA ban; instead, should he be found guilty, a fine is the most likely punishment, a source informed news outlet.

The gesture, according to Bellingham, 21, was a “inside joke to friends,” but UEFA has ordered its disciplinary committee to look into it.

Switzerland and England are scheduled to play in the quarterfinal on Saturday in Düsseldorf.

In a statement issued on Monday, UEFA said: “A UEFA Ethics and Disciplinary Inspector will conduct a disciplinary investigation regarding a potential violation of the basic rules of decent conduct by the English Football Association player, Jude Bellingham, having allegedly occurred in the scope of this match.

“Information on this matter will be made available in due course.”

UEFA has also accused the English FA of having problems with supporters after the game in Slovakia.

UEFA is looking into the “lighting of fireworks” and the “lack of order or discipline by supporters.”
