Dortmund director makes admission over Jude Bellingham future

Sebastian Kehl, the sporting director at Borussia Dortmund, responded when asked about the future of midfielder Jude Bellingham that the team is ready for “different scenarios.”

Bellingham, a player for England, is anticipated to sign a contract with Real Madrid this summer. The teenager has been pursued by Los Blancos, and various outlets have reported that he has reached an agreement on a six-year contract at the Bernabeu.

The transfer is anticipated to cost an initial €100 million plus an additional €50 million in add-ons. In order to go one better the next season and win the Bundesliga after missing out on the championship on the final day of the 2023–24 season, BVB will need to find a replacement.

Kehl now acknowledges that a decision over Bellingham’s future will be made soon.

“I assume that there will now be movement in the personnel,” he said to Bild. “We know that the player is of great value to us, that he has an ongoing contract with no release clause. Everything else will be revealed in the near future. We are preparing for different scenarios!”

When asked about Bellingham’s future, Kehl has previously stated that the club’s sole attention was on that unsuccessful league application.

In the 2022–23 Bundesliga season, the 19-year-old scored eight goals and provided four more assists, but Bellingham was unable to participate in the 2-2 tie with Mainz that allowed Bayern to surpass Dortmund in the German standings.

There are worries that he would need knee surgery, which might prevent him from participating in England’s Euro 2024 qualifiers this summer.
