Argentina manager Lionel Scaloni announced that Lionel Messi’s status for the Copa América quarterfinal against Ecuador on Thursday is still uncertain. The lineup decision will be made after the evening training session, which Messi attended.

Lionel Messi missed Argentina’s final group stage match, a 2-0 win over Peru on June 29, due to a right leg injury sustained in their 1-0 victory over Chile. His condition was previously described as “day to day,” but he returned to training earlier this week.

Scaloni plans to have a one-on-one conversation with Messi after the last training session to assess his physical condition. Despite uncertainties about the lineup, Scaloni emphasized that the presence of Messi will not influence the decision to start certain offensive players over others.

Ecuador manager Félix Sánchez revealed that his team studied their previous match against Argentina in preparation for the quarterfinal. The two teams will face off at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas, with the winner advancing to the semifinal at Metlife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, on July 9.
