Ings double inspires Southampton past Palace

Danny Ings scored twice on his return from injury to inspire Southampton to a 3-1 turnaround win over Crystal Palace.

Christian Benteke had put Palace ahead after only two minutes with a powerful shot.

Ings marked his first appearance since Matchweek 32 with a fine turn and finish to equalise on 19 minutes.

Palace had a big chance to go back ahead before half-time but Fraser Forster saved a Luka Milivojevic penalty that was awarded for a foul by Nathan Redmond on Wilfried Zaha.

That spot-kick stop gave the hosts confidence and they took the lead three minutes into the second half when a well-worked set-piece led to Che Adams turning in Stuart Armstrong’s centre.

Adams then turned provider to set up Ings to score his 12th goal of the season and become only the second Saints player to reach 20 in the Premier League at St Mary’s Stadium.

Southampton climb to 14th on 40 points, a point and a place behind Palace.
